READ EXCAVATING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM  Return to Top

As the technological advances of the 1980's began having an impact on our industry, Read realized that a new age of estimators and project superintendents would have to emerge.  Thus, in 1989 we began an internship program to train and familiarize current students in Civil Engineering and Construction Management with the excavating and earthmoving business.

From layout to estimating to supervision, Read's interns obtain an education that allow them more versatility in the workforce - whether they continue working for Read or go elsewhere in the job market.

Anywhere from 30 to 40 students per year apply for Read's program.  From that number Read accepts three to four students each summer.  At the end of each year the program is evaluated by ourselves and our interns and has evolved into an excellent training and educational tool.  It is most definitely a mutually beneficial situation.

Read feels its growth is directly related to the quality of its employees.  Our internship program is one stride in the right direction.  These interns are prime targets of our recruiting program, which we use to expand our employee base.  Because Read can review the qualifications of a large number of applicants, and then place the top 10% of these within our company, we feel that we are a step ahead of our competition.  As a result of our internship program, Read employs the best educated college graduates in our industry.
