FOR MY PARTNER AND I, IT ALL BEGAN IN JULY OF 1972... Reinink Ed Ahmer Don became READ EXCAVATING CO., INC. We did not have a vision or a dream, but we did have a thorough, honest evaluation of our abilities. The excavating market was in need of honesty and integrity. Due to this, we had faith in a sound future built on quality workmanship, performance, and a pricing strategy geared to develop repeat customers. Some thought these premises were not enough. Having borrowed several thousand dollars, we began our venture shaping the suburban Chicago landscape. There were many challenging moments and years, with no less than five recessions in the building industry during our first ten years in the business. However, as the years passed our commitment to quality, performance, and fair pricing developed a strong client base and a reputation pursued and envied by our competitors. We feel our flexibility towards the market has given us the edge we now enjoy. Read remains flexible in its approach to every project, thus adapting to our clients needs. We adjust to new technology, when this technology is beneficial to our clients and ourselves. Adapting to the ever changing business climate is done without compromising our values. Milestones in technology became our trademark dating back to the mid-1970's when Read installed laser controlled hydraulics to a dozer years before our competitors. Other milestones include state-of-the-art computerized estimates, utilizing CAD file information, as well as the use of the GPS (Global Positioning System) to verify topography, perform survey tasks and automate our dozers. In addition, we utilize the power of the Internet to communicate, transfer data, and exchange information with our clients and engineers. With all of these tools in place, Read is able to give solid advice and detailed estimates to our clients. We see our estimates as "the bottom line in earthmoving." Time and again, our clients come to realize that our projections end up being their real costs in the event a job is awarded to a competitor. All of these factors have enhanced the definition of Read, as a leader in the earthmoving industry.
